Annika and Benedikt from Germany decided to elope in New Orleans. For them, the city has special meaning since Benedikt spent some time here before with a guest family some years ago. They wanted their wedding to be simple without a lot of fuzz but fun. We had planned to meet the day of the wedding directly at Jackson Square where the ceremony took place. Little did we know that exactly at the time the ceremony was scheduled torrential rain poured down flooding the streets in minutes.
I rescued myself and my camera equipment to a corner bar at Jackson Square, ordered coffee, and grabbed my cell phone to call them. They also had to walk from the hotel to Jackson Square so I told them to wait it out and meet me at the bar. Once the rain calmed down, they made their way to the bar. They ordered some drinks and we had a little pre-wedding celebration.
The weather god was good to us and it stopped raining for the rest of the day. They were so relaxed that they would have exchanged their vows at the bar if necessary. Annika said: “Rain can’t stop us! “
We held the short and sweet ceremony at Jackson Square After their vows we did an impromptu photo tour of the French Quarter and surrounding areas.
Annika and Benedikt had their first dance as husband and wife on the streets of New Orleans the Big Easy way.
After our downtown tour, we decided to take a little drive to the city park for some more picturesque photos. I just love the old stone bridge under trees filled with Spanish Moss. It felt like they just stepped out of a fairytale storybook.
We had a blast and it just shows that even if it rains on your wedding day you can turn it around by staying positive. After all, you a marrying the love of your life and that’s all that matters.
