Sarah and Jovon welcomed their little baby boy Jovon Jr. a little bit earlier as expected. Jovi had a bit of a rough start in his earthly life and had to stay in the hospital for a few weeks longer.
When Jovi Jr. finally was allowed to come home with his parents, we scheduled his newborn session as soon as possible. Because he was already a big boy when he was born and quite active, Sarah was afraid that he might not be very fond of taking photos.
To her surprise he was an angel through the whole session and sleeping most of the time.
When I arrived at their home with my props and equipment I scouted out the best spot for the photo session. Unfortunately their home had not much natural light. The best place was the kitchen so we decided to make use of the dining table where I set up some of the props. Because Jovon Sr. had to go to work, I started with the father and son photos in their backyard, followed by some snuggle photos on the couch with both parents. After a feeding and relaxing break we started with some newborn portraiture on the kitchen table. Newborn photography is always on the babies schedule. I like to keep the photo session simple and I don’t belief in over posing newborns. Newborn photography at home is a mix of portraiture and lifestyle photo journalistic images. I always calculate a minimum of 2 hours for newborn photography.
